Cops raise a 'hole lot of money' for Illinois Special Olympics

Fund-raising efforts by the Buffalo Grove Police Department netted more than $4,500 on Friday as members of the department participated in the “Cop on the Roof” fund raiser at the three Dunkin’ Donuts in Buffalo Grove.

Proceeds from the effort benefit Special Olympics.
Buffalo Grove Police Chief Steve Casstevens participated in Friday's "Cop on a Roof" fund raiser for Illinois Special Olympics. Members of the BGPD were at all three Dunkin' Donut locations in Buffalo Grove.

Buffalo Grove’s top cop, Chief Steve Casstevens, estimated the fundraising efforts at the Dunkin’ Donuts at 1169 Old McHenry Road approached about $1,800 as he hawked the last remaining travel mug, T-shirt and raffle tickets for a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

The other Dunkin’ Donut locations in Buffalo Grove are at 1697 Weiland and 245 N. McHenry Road.

The “Cop on the Roof” initiative is one of several events the police department participates in.  Others include a trivia night in November and "Butterburgers and Badges” at Culver’s, 450 McHenry Road.

In addition to fund-raisers, the Police Department sponsors a variety of community events. On June 6, it will host “Bowl with a Cop” at Bowlero, 350 McHenry Road from noon to 2 p.m. on June 6.  The event is for kids age 7 to 17.  Information is available at Bowl with a Cop.
